NEURO REHABILITATION

INTRODUCTION

Neuro rehabilitation aims at assisting a patient suffering from any disability due to nervous system injury, to meet his objectives in everyday activities as much as possible. A wide spectrum of disabilities can occur in patients with nerve damage and each of them requires specific rehabilitation techniques which may be for functional improvement or for emotional stability or anatomical correction. It’s a multidisciplinary teamwork where the patient himself along with his family, are active members.

NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS IN AYURVEDA

Neurological disorders are included under the heading of Vaathavyadhi and also under the diseases of Madhyama roga marga.

PROGNOSIS

Diseases of madhyama roga marga are generally difficult to cure. Treatment of vaathavyadhis depend upon the degree of involvement of vaatha dosha and also the other two doshas namely pitha and kapha.

MARMA CHIKITSA

This is a very special area of Ayurveda which requires serious expertise. Marma are vital points in the body where any injury can be dangerous. There are 107 such areas in our body. These are areas where there is a conglomeration of nerves, arteries and veins. Knowledge of this important branch is inevitable for neuro rehabilitation since the degree of injury to marma decides the prognosis and improvement of the condition of the patient. Stimulating the marma points by various therapies can sometimes rebound the functions of nervous system remarkably.
